Drumfolk is a rhythmic storytelling of the history of African American percussive traditions inspired by the Stono Rebellion of 1739 and the Negro Act of 1740. This work will explore this transformative moment in American history and honor the survival and evolution of a cultural ethos through rhythm, music and dance. Audiences will witness the power of the drum, from the African mainland where the drum has its strongest roots, to the art forms created on American shores, all influenced and shaped by the drum.
